Frequently Asked Questions

What will my first session be like?

  • I do request you complete the online intake form regarding your medical history, past or present injuries or other physical conditions that I should be aware of prior to your massage. It helps me best prepare for your session, ahead of time. Also, it won't eat up your session time.

  • Arrive 5-10 minutes early, so we can review of your intake form and discuss your information, including current conditions that might affect treatment, or if there is a specific area or issue that I should address. Together, we will decide how the session will go.

  • After our consultation, I will leave the room to wash my hands while you undress. I suggest removing all clothing except underwear, those should remain on. If this is outside of your comfort zone, I am happy to (and perfectly able to) work through light clothing. This is your session, and you should feel at ease. During your session, only the area of your body being worked on will be undraped. I have a wireless doorbell so that you can ring when you're ready on the table.

  • I will ask you for feedback just a couple times, during the massage, so that we can adjust techniques or pressure to your level of comfort. Communication is key during your session. I ask that you be open and honest if anything needs to be changed. Music not your style? Table too warm? Let me know. You are always in control, and you may stop the massage at any time, for any reason.

  • After your massage, I will leave the room to wash up while you dress. Once you're ready, I will re-enter the room. We will discuss anything I noticed (muscle tension, range of motion, etc.), and I will ask you to share what you experienced and ask for feedback on what needs to be changed for the next session. I will give you recommendations on things to do between sessions (stretches, for example), as well as a plan for how often you should be receiving massage. At this time, the session fee is due and your next appointment is booked. I provide water and a snack, to go.

Are there times when I shouldn't have a massage?

It's not a good idea to schedule a massage appointment if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • You have a fever.

  • You were recently involved in an accident or have acute pain (sharp pain with sudden onset within 24 hours of your appointment).

  • You are dizzy or nauseated.

  • You are bruised or have wounds, rashes, or severe sunburn.

If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me before your appointment to discuss them. Sometimes things that may seem small can be irritated by a bodywork session.

Is your space accessible?

Yes and no. There are no stairs, and the studio is level with the driveway/pavement, so it is wheelchair accessible. However the restroom is on the small side, and not wheelchair friendly.

What are your payment options?

I accept cash, debit cards and credit cards. If paying cash, I am not normally able to make change as I don't usually carry cash on me. I do not have PayPal or Venmo.

What kind of oil do you use to massage? I have extremely sensitive skin.

I use Biotone Pure Touch Organics Massage Creme. It is unscented, and hypo-allergenic. It is paraben-free, and cruelty-free. It is moisturizing, yet has a non-greasy finish. You will NOT leave feeling like a human oil slick.

I am very scent sensitive, and some smells give me migraines. Can you accommodate me?

Absolutely! My linens are washed in fragrance-free detergent, and my massage creme is unscented. I also do not wear perfume or heavily-scented products when working with clients. We will skip the use of essential oils in your session, too.

What's up with your no-tipping policy?

Okay, this has confused a lot of my clients, at first. There's a couple reasons for this:

1. I set my prices where they need to be to cover my expenses, taxes, credit card fees, etc. I wanted to make it so the price I post is the price that is paid. No surprises. No awkwardness in wondering how much to tip.

2. I feel that if I want to be taken seriously as alternative healthcare, tipping makes it feel less so. I'm not motivated by tips. I'm motivated by the results my work brings. You will always get the best session possible.

3. Want to show appreciation? Write a wonderful review on Google, tag me in social media posts, recommend me to everyone you know who would benefit from my work. That stuff really makes me feel like I'm making a difference in clients' lives!
